MULTICULTURALISM

FIVE C's  OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION

  • Multiculturalism. Our age level thematic curriculum follows a typical American preschool or school program. We use Total Physical Response method to teach colors, numbers, shapes, holidays and seasons in Spanish and Chinese. We take what is familiar to the children and build onto it in Spanish and Chinese. Our personal touch is including more of Hispanic and international cultural events along with the  American ones. For instance, Cinco De Mayo, Dia De Los Muertos, and the Moon Festival are weaved in with the Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Day, and the 4th of July celebrations.

  • Fun. Preschoolers as well as younger school children learn best while playing, so we make sure our program is very fun!! Music, games, literature, arts and crafts, puppet theatre, and a multitude of fun props are only a  part of the fun. Our enthusiastic, highly skilled instructors thoroughly enjoy working with children, and the result is FUN ALL AROUND!

  • Early start. Research is showing that languages are best learned if started at an early age (to read more, click here). This ability fades in late adolescent years as pathways in human brain gradually close down due to lack of use. In other words, learning at an early age is effortless for most children because the neurological pathways are still wide open. This is why we recommend to start early! Our youngest students are two.

  • Immersion. Class length is 30 minutes and the instructors speak English only during the first 2-3 minutes. The instructors make sure the children can follow and they explain by showing examples. Occasionally they use some English if they feel their little students are somewhat lost, but the emphasis is on immersion into the target language.

  • The Five C's of Foreign Language Education. National Standards in Foreign Language Education
have been set by ACTFL, AATF, AATG, AATI, AATSP, ACL/APA, ACTR, CLASS/CLTA, & NCSTJ/ATJ. World Languages For Children is actively applying the Five C's (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities) throughout our curriculum.
